07 Aug Protecting Yourself in a Digital Age
Protection Resources International (PRI) is a one of the best kept secrets of the prominent north shore, and its community members and business people. PRI resides in a non-descript office where it supplies clients with information and discreet solutions to problems. The end result of their work is supplying their clients with a convenient, safe and secure lifestyle. We talked with the firm’s director of operations; Edward Limoges, about the realities of the services that Protection Resources International provides.
What brings people to Protection Resources International?
Our clients are mixture of private families and corporate executives looking for the advantage our information provides, the added convenience our service delivers, and the reassurance of the safety our staff supplies. The industry term for our work is “executive protection”, commonly referred to as bodyguarding. Both terms don’t accurately portray what we do; providing protection against physical threats makes up a very small percentage of our focus with clients.
Since you aren’t focused on protecting celebrities, then what is it that you do?
We facilitate education and information for our clients, helping them live their lives and do business in a safe and secure manner. This is accomplished through a range of services; we provide drivers that are trained in advanced driving. Their skill level has been measured to be at least twice that of the average driver. In the event of a medical emergency en route, they are trained to provide life saving medical intervention. We help clients navigate the often confusing world of the internet and social media. We support them while travelling with researching, planning and logistics, and sometimes accompanying them on their trips. For those who have a need we can supply the traditional executive protection services such as protecting clients who have a physical threat.
You mentioned two unusual services: working with social media and researching travel. How does that relate to executive protection?
The new era of social media mandates families and businesses be aware of what they are putting out there [in social media] and how they go about doing it. The classic example of potential stalkers is often cited but this is more about reputation management than anything else. Parents need to be aware of the problems their children can stumble into if they aren’t exercising good discretion about what they are sharing with others. Just as we help our clients stay safe in the physical world, we give them tools to stay safe in the digital world.
With respect to researching travel; we research the travel itinerary with the goal of empowering the client with the knowledge of how to travel safely. This research is consolidated into a brief summary for the client that is specific to their hotels, the roads they travel, the sites they intend to visit, and any other information that will create a safe environment for their trip be it pleasure or business. This is a unique service and we are very proud of how closely customized we can make our information for each trip and client.
What sets Protection Resources International apart from other companies within your industry?
We are different in that we give our clients two key advantages other firms aren’t able to provide. We have a unique approach and a broad range of expertise to draw upon.
Our approach to how we handle our clients and what we do for them is entirely different than others. We don’t emphasize stereotypical “bodyguard” services because, quite frankly, the vast majority of people in this area don’t need them. They realize more value from the information we provide, and more convenience from services; such as using one of our drivers to take a client downtown for a day, or to take important clients and family members to business meetings or to the airport. Our business is to support our clients and their business’s operations. Our staff works discretely they don’t draw attention to themselves they act as facilitators and logistics handlers, rather than as a “bodyguard”.
Just as important as our approach, is the expertise we bring to the table. We are one of the few firms in the world that has full time attorney on staff to provide legal counsel which helps our clients find solutions to the challenges they face, specifically in the area of executive services and the IRS. Education also serves to separate Protection Resources International from other providers, especially part time providers; our staff has been trained by leading experts in the industry. The investment in professional expertise also encompasses the experts who we consult with in the highly specialized fields of psychology and computer forensics. All this makes PRI a unique company that provides a unique service.
